ANTWERP – Three Archers reached double figures, and another scored
nine to lead a balanced Antwerp to a 47-26 victory over the Holgate
Tigers last night.
Land Brewer, Zane McMichael and Parker Moore
all scored eleven points, and Reid Lichty had nine in the effort. Ben
Savina and Cam Fuller added three and two points respectively to close
out the Archer scoring.
Antwerp jumped out to a 14-2 lead at the
end of the first quarter, and despite Holgate outscoring the Archers by
one in the second, the outcome was never in doubt.
The home team
took a 24-13 lead into halftime and extended their lead to 40-24 during
the third quarter. Antwerp shut down the Tigers in the fourth, giving up
just two points while adding seven themselves.
The Archers
outrebounded Holgate 24-18. Antwerp controlled the ball well too,
committing only six turnovers while forcing fifteen.
With the win,
Antwerp improves to 11-3 on the year. Holgate falls to 2-13. Up next
for Antwerp is a GMC matchup at Ayersville on Friday night, before
traveling to Montpelier Saturday.
Notes of interest: The
non-conference game was a makeup contest, rescheduled due to the Antwerp
football team’s extended playoff run. Holgate posted a symmetrical
line, scoring 2-11-11-2 in the quarters.
