HAVILAND – In a Green Meadows Conference battle at the ‘Palace’
Thursday night, host Wayne Trace took the early lead and gradually
pulled away from visiting Hicksville for a 57-31 victory.
The red, white and blue doubled up the visiting Aces 12-6 in the opening stanza before widening the gap in the second quarter.
Wayne
Trace did so behind the efforts of the freshman duo of Caroline Winans
and Lexi Moore, who combined to score 13 of 14 points in the period as
the Lady Raiders expanded the advantage to a dozen points at the
intermission.
Two Moore baskets and a Harper Myers free throw
pushed the Raider lead to 17-6 before Winans bucketed the final nine
red, white and blue points of the quarter, setting the halftime lead at
26-14.
Six Gracie Shepherd points opened the Raider third quarter
scoring that, combined with an Abby Moore two-pointer, expanded the
Wayne Trace lead to 34-14.
Hicksville put together a run of its
own in cutting the deficit to 34-24, getting two-pointers from Kennedy
Adams, Tori Perna and Lindsay Bergman along with a Perna three-pointer.
However,
the red, white and blue got a trio of buckets from Moore and Shepherd
picked up a basket as well as Wayne Trace widened the lead back to 42-24
entering the final stanza.
The Lady Raiders extended the margin
to 49-26 early in the fourth quarter and cruised the rest of the way in
wrapping up the 57-31 victory.
Caroline Winans topped Wayne Trace
with 17 points and nine steals on the night with Lexi Moore adding 14
markers, seven rebounds and three assists. Gracie Shepherd also reached
double digits with ten points while chipping in two rebounds, three
assists and three steals.
Kathleen Stoller finished with six
markers for the red, white and blue followed by Harper Myers (three),
Abby Moore (two), Elise Miller (two), Careen Winans (two) and Torree
Sinn (one).
Myers and Abby Moore both hauled in five boards for
Wayne Trace while Miller dished out four assists. Myers and Abby Moore
each added three assists for the Lady Raiders, who improve to 5-6
overall and 1-1 in the Green Meadows Conference.
Shepherd and Careen Winans added three steals apiece as well for Wayne Trace with Myers having four.
Lindsay Bergmann had ten points and ten rebounds to lead Hicksville as the Aces fall to 1-10 overall and 0-2 in the GMC.
Tori
Perna (five), Leah Seitz (five), Kennedy Adams (four), Alyssa Seitz
(three), Ashlyn Steury (three) and Hayden Neidhardt (one) were the other
scorers for the Lady Aces.
Neidhardt picked up five rebounds for Hicksville with Adams chipping in four boards, four assists and two steals.
Wayne Trace’s junior varsity squad was also victorious, defeating the Aces 33-19.
The
Lady Raiders were led by Tianna Sinn with 13 points and Ava Zartman
chipped in nine markers. Aubree Miller (four), Kathleen Stoller (four),
Allison Noggle (two) and Lynsey Pease (one) also scored for Wayne Trace.
Lilly Porter topped Hicksville with seven points followed by Emily Husted (six), Evy McAlexander (four) and Ashlyn Steury (two).
