HAVILAND – In a non-league girls' basketball matinee Saturday afternoon at the ‘Palace’, senior Gracie Shepherd scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Wayne Trace Lady Raiders to a 42-28 victory over visiting Miller City.

Fellow senior Abby Moore chipped in seven points, two rebounds and two steals for the red, white and blue as Wayne Trace improved to 10-8 overall on the season.

The Lady Wildcats jumped in front early, taking a 7-4 lead at the end of one period before the Lady Raiders answered with a 13-point second quarter to seize a 17-12 halftime advantage.

Wayne Trace expanded the margin from there, doubling up the Putnam County squad 10-5 in the third quarter for a 27-17 lead entering the final stanza.

Lexi Moore and Caroline Winans each recorded five points for Wayne Trace and Careen Winans finished with four points. Sophomore Harper Myers and senior Elise Miller recorded three points and two points, respectively, for the Lady Raiders.

Lexi Moore also totaled 14 rebounds to pace the red, white and blue while adding a pair of steals with Myers chipping in six boards, two assists and two steals. Caroline Winans totaled three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Grace Pfau, Nicolette Inkrott and Jordan Schnipke all had six points for Miller City, which dropped to 9-9 on the season.

Chelsea Erford and Ava Ruck both added four points for the Lady Wildcats and Hailey Warnimont picked up two points to go along with eight rebounds and two steals.

Erford added three boards and a pair of assists for Miller City while Tori Wenzinger and Ruck both finished with two rebounds and two steals. Pfau recorded two boards and five steals as well for the Lady Wildcats.

Wayne Trace finished the contest 16 of 44 from the field (36 percent) while Miller City ended the game 9 of 42 (21 percent). At the charity stripe, the Lady Wildcats hit seven of nine (78 percent) and the Lady Raiders were 12 of 13 (92 percent). The red, white and blue dominated the boards overall, winning that category 37-25, but Miller City had fewer turnovers, 21-23.

The Lady Raiders return to action Tuesday on Senior Night at the ‘Palace’ when Wayne Trace welcomes in Continental. Wayne Trace then hosts Fairview in a Green Meadows Conference battle Thursday evening before visiting Crestview Monday night.
