DEFIANCE – Wayne Trace’s ACME baseball season came to a close on Friday as the Raiders fell to Green Meadows Conference rival Fairview 8-5 in sectional action at Defiance High School.

The Raiders jumped in front first, scoring three times in the second inning, but Fairview quickly responded with a five-run bottom half of the inning for the 5-3 advantage.

The Apaches never trailed again, adding a single run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to extend the margin to 8-3. Wayne Trace closed out the contest with two runs in the top of the seventh.

Eli Shininger got the win for the black and gold, pitching 6-1/3 innings allowing three hits, five runs and five walks with four strikeouts. Jude Shininger recorded the final two outs for Fairview.

Kyle Forrer took the loss for Wayne Trace, allowing one hit, three runs (two earned) and five walks while striking out five. Tyler Davis and Tyson Gerber also pitched for the Raiders.

Brady Miller drove in a pair of runs for the Raiders with Davis and Lane Morehead both scoring twice.

Bailey Schooley, Jude Shininger and Cole Mack all scored twice for Fairview.

In earlier action last week, the Raiders fell to host Defiance 6-0 in the winner’s bracket final of sectional tournament play.

The Bulldogs took control with a three-run second before expanding the lead by scoring once each in the third, fourth and fifth to wrap up the 6-0 win.

Aidan Kiessling pitched the complete-game victory for Defiance, scattering one hit and three walks while striking out ten.

Brady Miller suffered the loss for Wayne Trace, tossing five frames giving up eight hits, six runs (five earned) and two walks while striking out one.

Jordan Lotz pitched the remaining inning for the Raiders.

David Jimenez singled and tripled for the Bulldogs while Garret Rodenberger singled and doubled. Bradyn Shaw and Gavino Gomez also had a pair of singles each for Defiance.
