AYERSVILLE - Paulding pushed its winning streak to four games with an easy 57-44 victory over Ayersville on Monday.

The Panthers jumped to a 19-8 lead after one quarter, extended the advantage to 38-22 at half and led 55-29 through three in surpassing last year’s win total of 10.

“I’m extremely proud of the squad tonight,” noted Paulding mentor Matt Arellano, whose Panthers improved to 11-3 on the season. “The key tonight was our poise. We have shown great growth in this department. It was tested tonight in a physical game with Ayersville.”

The host Pilots proved no match for Paulding, however, in slipping to 4-9 this year.

“Offensively and defensively the girls executed very well,” Arellano said. “We were able to generate some turnovers and converted those turnovers into points. On the offensive side, it was a balanced attack with several contributors.”

Five different Panthers hit 3-pointers in the game including first-quarter long balls by Jalynn Parrett, Leigha Egnor and Audrey Giesige. Janae Pease then came through with a pair of 3-balls in the second stanza while Audrey Giesige added another before half. Chelsi Giesige got into the 3-point parade in the third quarter for the Panthers.

Audrey Giesige finished with a team-high 12 points to lead Paulding with Chelsi Giesige and Parrett right behind with 11 points each. Pease and Sydney McCullough chipped in with eight points apiece for the Panthers.

“It’s a fun group to watch when we are clicking on both ends of the floor,” added Arellano. “But we don’t have any time to celebrate as we are in the midst of three games in four nights.”

Sophomore Kacee Okuley tallied a game-best 14 points to pace Ayersville with freshman Kaylee Dockery contributing 10 points for the hosts, which outscored Paulding 15-2 over the final eight minutes of action to make the outcome closer than the final score actually appears.
