DELPHOS - Paulding ran into a hot-shooting Delphos St. John’s team and lost to the Lady Blue Jays 58-42 on Tuesday night.

But it wasn’t without an impressive first quarter for the Panthers, which led 18-16 after the opening eight minutes of action. Chelsi Geisige had seven points in the stanza, Bri Townley four and Audrey Geisige hit a 3-pointer.

However, DSJ outpointed Paulding 21-8 in the second period to take a 37-26 halftime lead and then put the game away by holding the Panthers to just three points in the third. Paulding only made two field goals and was 7-12 at the foul line in the second and third quarters combined.

Meanwhile the Jays, which canned five 3-balls in the second including three by Paige Gaynier, hit 50 percent from the field in the win, connecting on 13-26 from two-point range and 8-16 on triples.

Betty Vorst had 18 points to pace Delphos, eight coming in the third, while Gaynier was right behind with 17 points in helping the Blue Jays improve to 7-5.

Chelsi Geisige had 15 points and Townley nine for Paulding, which could hit just 14-55 shots from the floor for 25 percent, including 3-14 on 3-point attempts. The Panthers, which dropped to 3-8 on the year, ended 11-18 at the foul line.

Although Townley pulled down 13 rebounds, the Panthers were beaten on the boards 35-23. Townley also had three steals with Asia Arellano and Janae Pease each dishing off three assists.
