HAMLER — It was business as usual, almost, for Lincolnview junior lefty Landon Price in Friday’s Division IV regional semifinal — a 7-2 win over Antwerp. The Lancers (22-8) now play Leipsic (25-6) Saturday at 2:00 for a trip to state. Leipsic beat Sycamore Mohawk 5-0 in Friday’s opener. Antwerp’s season ends at 18-6.

Price, the Ohio Division IV Player of the Year, went the distance, walking nobody, striking out 13, throwing 92 pitches, 71 strikes (77 percent). The only thing unusual was that Price gave up his first earned runs of the season, both of which came in the bottom of the seventh.

“Landon has been incredible all season long,” said Lancer coach Eric Fishpaw. “It’s a credit to his counterpart behind the plate. He has all the faith in Collin Overholt, he’ll throw any pitch on any count. Those two continue to work extremely hard, and I’m very proud of their efforts tonight.”

It was a rough outing for the Archers’ first team all-state junior lefty Luke Krouse. The game started with an Antwerp throwing error which got Price to second base. A single by senior all-state first team catcher Overholt and a ground ball fielder’s choice by sophomore shortstop Dane Ebel gave the Lancers a quick 1-0 lead. There were plenty more to come soon.

With two out in the top of the second, a single by senior first baseman Clayton Leeth and a walk to senior third baseman Creed Jessee brought up the top of the lineup again, which often spells trouble for opponents. A single by Price, single by Overholt, and double by Ebel produce four more runs and a 5-0 Lincolnview lead.

With two out in the top of the fourth, the top of the Lancer lineup came to the plate again. A Price single, Overholt triple, and a wild pitch pushed across two more runs — 7-0, Lincolnview.

Meanwhile, Price was cruising through five perfect innings before the Archers’ sophomore first baseman Ethan Lichty flared an opposite field single to right center with one out in the bottom of the sixth.

Antwerp produced a rarity off of Price in the bottom of the seventh — two runs, both earned, on two hits —single by sophomore outfielder Parker Moore, double by senior shortstop/relief pitcher Austin Lichty, RBI ground-out by Krouse, and a wild pitch. Junior infielder Hunter Sproles then chipped in with a single that didn’t figure into the scoring.

Lincolnview had nine hits, led by Price (2 for 4, three runs, one RBI) and Overholt (3 for 4, including a triple, two RBI). Chipping in with a hit apiece were Ebel (double, RBI), junior centerfielder Carson Fox, sophomore DH Caden Hanf, and Leeth.

“Krouse is a very good pitcher,” said Fishpaw. “We talked about getting off to a good start, especially early in the game. We were able to get that run in the first inning, then had the big inning in the second. Overall, I’m just very proud of everybody on the team.”

The Archers’ four hits came from Moore, Austin Lichty (double), Sproles, and Ethan Lichty.

Krouse went five innings — seven runs (six earned), seven hits, three walks, nine strikeouts, 107 pitches, 70 strikes (65 percent). Austin Lichty threw two innings — no runs, two hits, no walks, three strikeouts, 31 pitches, 23 strikes (74 percent).

Lincolnview played errorless baseball. The Lancers had only two assists in the game — one by Price and one by senior second baseman Aaron Cavinder.
