ANTWERP -  It was a quick turn-around for the Antwerp Lady Archers after playing Friday night and coming right  back for a Saturday afternoon contest. After dropping a 31 point loss at the hands of Wayne Trace the blue and white put together a nice effort to shoot down the Eagles of North Central 51-27. With the non conference win the Archers improve to 5-6.

"We had a difficult three-game stretch this past week with a game at Fairview which we had a chance to win, then on the road again at Woodlan in a game we should have won and then last night Wayne Trace played very good and we didn't. So, coming in here this afternoon I wasn't sure how we would respond but I was pleased with our effort. We came out positive and executed very well," said Antwerp head coach Scott McMiachel.

After North Central took the opening 2-0 lead the Archers answered with a Tiera Gomez bucket and a long three-pointer by Karsyn Brumett to put the Archers in front 5-0. Antwerp would not trail in the contest the rest of the way. The Archers led 14-6 at the end of the first quarter and built their margin to 10 on a Heather Oberlin basket with 5:35 remaining in the second period 16-6. North Central made a run at the Archers and trimmed the lead to 18-14 before Oberlin hit a free throw and Brumett dialing in behind the arc for a 22-14 halftime lead.

In the third frame and the Archers on top 27-20 Astianna Coppes completed a traditional three-point play to move the blue and white back up by ten 30-20 at the 3:39 mark. A Brumett triple late in the third quarter, her third of the contest, and a Gomez bucket prior to the end of the period had the Archers in control 35-23.

The Archers put away any doubt of an Eagle comeback after scoring the first six points to open the fourth quarter. Back-to-back baskets from Oberlin plus a free throw followed by a Coppes free throw had the Archers in fron 41-23 with 4:45 remaining in the contest. Down the stretch Antwerp got some valuable playing time out of Lydia Brewer, Grace Schuette, Kennadi Recker, along with Molly and Allison Reinhart.  Brewer connected on a short runner with 2:41 remaining to give Antwerp a 20-point lead 45-25. Brewer finished with six points with Schuette chipping in four.

The Archers were led in scoring by senior Karsyn Brumett with 16 followed by Heather Oberlin adding 12 and Astianna Coppes with nine. Madison Brown was the leading scorer for the Eagles, who fall to 5-8, with 13 points. Lauren Balser added six, Kristen Hickman and Kenadee Hollstein each with three and Kyleigh Westfall with two.

"We had good play from several today. Karsyn (Brumett) hit some big shots early to get us going. Heather (Oberlin) did a much better job in the post and Alyvia Devore was very good at the point. We played pretty good defense, we set better screens, and got some younger kids some playing time. It was a much needed win," said Coach McMichael.
