Girls’
sectional and district draws were held Sunday throughout the state of
Ohio with local squads included in finding out their tournament paths.
With
seeding determined by the new Martin RPI system, the seeds were
pre-determined by record, strength of schedule, opponents’ winning
percentage and the winning percentage of the teams opponents played.
In
the Division IV Defiance District, the Lady Knights of Crestview (13-4)
garnered the top seed and chose to open tournament action on Wednesday,
February 15, when they will play 13th-seeded Fayette (2-16) in a 6
p.m. game at Paulding High School.
The second game of the night features sixth-seeded Pettisville (11-8) against eighth-seeded Montpelier (9-10).
The
winner of the Crestview-Fayette contest returns for a 6 p.m. contest
on February 18 against 12th-seeded North Central (2-15) while
fourth-seeded Hilltop (13-5) will play either Pettisville or Montpelier
in the second game on February 18.
In the other half of the
Defiance district, sectional play at Bryan High School on February 15
has tenth-seeded Edgerton (3-15) playing third-seeded Stryker (15-3) at
6 p.m. with the winner advancing to take on fifth-seeded Lincolnview
(10-8) at 6 p.m. on February 18.
On February 16, seventh-seeded
Antwerp (9-8) squares off against ninth-seeded Edon (5-14) in the 6
p.m. while 11th-seeded Hicksville (2-16) tangles with second-seeded
Ayersville (13-3) in the nightcap. Those two winners play in the 7:30
p.m. game on February 18 at Bryan High School.
Division III
district play will be hosted by Elida High School where Ottawa Glandorf,
Delphos Jefferson, Parkway and Fairview picked up the top four seeds.
At
Lincolnview High School, seventh-seeded Coldwater and 11th-seeded Fort
Recovery (5-13) open the sectional followed by third-seeded Parkway
(16-2) and ninth-seeded Wayne Trace (10-8) squaring off in the nightcap
on February 15.
Sectional championship play then has second-seeded
Delphos Jefferson (16-1) squaring off against either Coldwater (10-8)
or Fort Recovery before fifth-seeded Allen East (12-5) awaits the
Parkway-Wayne Trace winner.
The other half of the district takes
place at Ayersville High School as tenth-seeded Spencerville (9-10) and
12th-seeded Paulding (2-15) meet in the 6 p.m. game on February 15.
Game two of the night will have sixth-seeded Bluffton (12-7) against
eighth-seeded Tinora (9-8).
Top-seeded Ottawa Glandorf (14-3) then
takes on either Spencerville or Paulding in the first sectional
championship game at 1 p.m. on February 18 before Fairview (15-3)
plays the Bluffton-Tinora winner in game two at approximately 2:30 p.m.
Girls’
district tournament contests will have the semifinals on February 23
with the district championships slated for February 25.
