EDGERTON - Wayne Trace hit the road to Williams County Monday night for a non-league softball battle at Edgerton where the host Bulldogs posted an 8-4 victory over the Raiders.

Edgerton broke the game open with a four-run fifth inning that gave the Bulldogs a 7-3 lead and the maroon and gold cruised the rest of the way for the win.

Despite the loss, Raider head coach Amber Showalter was happy to get a game in before opening district play Tuesday night.

“It was just good to get a game in after having the weekend off,” noted the Raider head coach. “We came out a little sluggish and hopefully we got some of the bugs worked out.”

Edgerton struck for two runs in the opening frame before the Lady Raiders answered with two runs in the third to knot the game at 2-2.

With the game tied at 3-3 entering the bottom of the fifth, the Bulldogs then plated four runs in the frame to seize a 7-3 lead with two innings remaining.

“They took advantage of some opportunities there in the fifth,” Showalter continued. “We did some good things tonight and just need to clean up some areas but we will be ready to go on Tuesday.”

Ashlynn Sleesman picked up the win on the mound for Edgerton, tossing 5-2/3 innings giving up five hits, four runs (one earned) and three walks while striking out four. Rylie Moreno pitched the final 1-1/3 innings for the Lady Bulldogs, who improve to 13-9 on the season.
