ANTWERP - Antwerp used a dominating performance on the boards to pound Holgate 58-30 on Friday evening.

The Archers pulled down 42 rebounds while Holgate could muster just 13 in the Green Meadows Conference battle.

“This was by far our best rebounding effort,” noted Antwerp coach Doug Billman after his veteran squad evened its GMC record at 3-3. “We limited them to one shot and we really hit the offensive glass hard.”

In winning their third consecutive contest to improve to 12-5 on the season, the Archers won every quarter against a Holgate team that has lost 13 in a row.

“Overall it was a really nice effort defensively,” Billman said after limiting the Tigers to single-digits in every quarter. “That really helped to trigger out offense early.”

Jayvin Landers scored 10 points in the first half in helping Antwerp to a 25-14 advantage at the break and ended with a game-high 17 points, hitting three triples in the process.

“Jayvin played a really efficient offensive game for us,” Billman pointed out.

Luke Brewer added 11 points in the victory, seven coming in the second quarter. Keaton Altimus chipped in with eight for the Archers, which had seven different players score four or more points.

Antwerp, which led 39-21 after three quarters before winning the final eight minutes of play 19-9, ended up the game hitting 46 percent from the field on 22-48 shooting while connecting on 11-14 charity tosses for 79 percent.

Sam Medina was the only Holgate player to score more than four points, finishing with a team-high eight for the Tigers, which canned just 10-39 field-goal attempts for 26 percent and 5-12 free throws for 42 percent.

Holgate ended the contest with 10 turnovers, two less than Antwerp, in falling to 1-17 overall and 0-6 in conference play.

Antwerp also had no trouble winning the junior varsity game 44-21 to remain undefeated at 17-0.
