ANTWERP - The 2019 high school football season closed out last Friday with the Antwerp Archers hosting the Tinora Rams. Unfortunately for the Archers the long season came to an end without the blue-and-white tasting victory - finishing 0-10. Tinora overpowered the Archers to take the Green Meadows Conference finale 42-8.

Tinora enjoyed a 35-0 halftime advantage that allowed for the running clock to be instituted in the second half. The Archers avoided the shut-out when senior quarterback Blake Schuette connected with another senior Quincy Brinneman on a nine-yard pass with 1:25 remaining in the contest. Brinneman added the two-point conversion for all the Archer points in the contest.

"It was a rough year but these kids didn't quit. We played through adversity and it just seemed like we were dealt a bad hand. But through it all I thought the guys adjusted well and the effort was there in every game," said first year Head Coach Jason Hale

Tinora, who finished the season at 4-6 overall and 2-4 in GMC play collected a couple of touchdowns in the first quarter led by sophomore Cole Commisso who scored at the 8:24 mark on a two-yard run. At 5:10, still in the first quarter, sophomore quarterback Nolan Schafer teamed up with Evan Willitzer on a pass covering 65 yards of real estate and the Rams second TD of the evening.

Tinora broke the game wide open in the second stanza with three touchdowns. On the first play of the quarter Commisso collected his second touchdown of the night on a 21-yard scamper through the Archer defense. After an Antwerp series that sputtered after  just four plays and a punt the Rams were back in business. After an incomplete pass the Rams placed the ball in the hands of Commisso who rumbled 74 yards for his third touchdown and a 28-0 Rams lead.

Tinora would answer one more time prior to halftime. Using just five plays covering 63 yards, this time Christian Commisso, a freshman, pounded the ball into the end zone from eight yards out to put the Rams in control 35-0 at the break.

On their opening drive of the third period Tinora needed eight plays to cover 70 yards for their last score of the contest. Nax Grube took it in from the 29-yard line and following the Javen Gaines extra point the Rams were on top 42-0 with 6:51 remaining in the third.

For the game, the Archers managed 79 yards rushing and 58 yards passing for 137 yards of offense. Schuette was 10-22 passing.

Hunter Sproles collected 36 yards on four catches.

“All season we were basically out-manned but we look forward and I think we have potential to move forward in a positive way. All we can do and will do is build for the future. We have some talent coming up and now we have to harness it and continue to work hard," Hale concluded.

Playing their final game in the Archer uniform were five seniors including Brinneman, Schuette, Ross Lengacher, Tim Taylor, Nick McCreery, and Izik Garrett.
