RUSSELL LONG 1921-2018

PAULDING – Russell L. Long, age 97, died Thursday, Dec. 27.

He was born June 5, 1921 in Paulding County, the son of Minor and Hazel (Bailey) Long. They both preceded him in death. On June 23, 1943, he married Juanita A. Taner, who preceded him in death on June 29, 2006. He was a WWII U.S. Air Force chief mechanic, working on B-29s, B-17s and B-24s. He was a member of Friends United Methodist Church, Latty; a retired farmer; a member of American Legion Post #297; and lifetime member of John Paulding Historical Society. He previously was employed by the American Sugar Beet Factory of Paulding and by Toledo Ship Yards.

He is survived by his children, James R. (Stephanie) Long, Haviland, Barbara (Gene) Gribble, Oakwood, Marilyn Rhoad, Scott, and Linda Prill, Gainesboro, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by his siblings, Kenneth, Gene, Louise Williamson, Norma Thornell and LaDonna Poling.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, with Pastor Ron Johnson officiating. He will be laid to rest in St. Paul Cemetery, Paulding County, with graveside rites accorded by American Legion #297.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.
