ANTWERP – Bill Ray Hammond, 87, of Antwerp, passed away Tuesday, July 9, at Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center.

Bill was born in Woodburn, Ind., on Nov. 3, 1931, a son of the late Beatrice (Hissong) and Darwin Hammond. He worked at International Harvester, Fort Wayne, for 32 years and was a bus driver for Antwerp Local Schools for 16 years.

Bill will be sadly missed by his wife, Beth (Derck), whom he married Aug. 12, 1950; daughters, Jan (John) Reeb, Joyce (Steve) Parrish, Carolyn (Gary) Gross, Elaine (Steve) Foust, Donna (Ted) Laker, Laura (Mark) Bissell and Sara (Brett) Johanns; brother, Dennis (Wendy); 23 grandchildren; and 54 great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by his sons, David and William; grandson, Jason Reeb; great-granddaughter, Harper Martenies; and sister, Barbara Hubbell.

Bill’s funeral mass is 11 a.m. Monday, July 15 at Divine Mercy Catholic Church in Antwerp. He will be laid to rest at Maumee Cemetery.

Visitation is from 2-7 p.m. Sunday, July 14, at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Visitation will be from 10-10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
