GROVER HILL — Paulding County Coroner Dr. Joseph Kuhn has identified the remains of the three occupants of the plane that crashed on Nov. 6 at the intersection of Roads 137 and 60 in Latty Township.

According to Sheriff Jason Landers, the pilot of the aircraft, which is registered to Orthopedics Aviation Services, was Dr. Michael McCarty, age 59, from Grand Island, Nebraska. Passengers in the plane were Wayne Weiss, age 65, and his wife Rosalee Weiss, age 62, also from Grand Island, Nebraska.

“According to family members, McCarty was traveling to New Jersey to visit a daughter, and Weiss’ were simply vacationing. I was told Michael and Wayne were longtime friends and experienced pilots. The families began to search for Michael, Wayne and Rosalee after they failed to arrive in New Jersey at the scheduled time," said Sheriff Landers.

The plane crashed en route from eastern Iowa to Findlay, Ohio. It disappeared from radar shortly after crossing into Ohio.

Investigators with the FAA and NTSB continued to clean up the scene of the crash Saturday. They were hoping to wrap things up at the scene and begin their process of determining what actually happened.
