PAULDING
– Paulding Village Council heard a local business hopes to expand and
was asked about using electric scooters on streets during the regular
meeting Monday, Aug. 1.
Two citizens addressed council.
Myra
Lee asked council to review its regulations for electric scooters,
electric mini bikes and electric skateboards. Police officers told her
son it’s illegal to run electric scooters on the street or sidewalk. The
ordinance committee will meet for further discussion at 5 p.m. Monday,
Aug. 8.
Chasidy Strable had her property surveyed on Dix Street.
It was discovered a neighbor’s fence is encroaching on an adjacent alley
and the alley is partially on her property. Village administrator Jason
Vance and solicitor Harvey Hyman will work on the issue.
Council’s
buildings and grounds committee met July 25. Councilman David Burtch
reported Megan Sierra, executive director of PC Workshop/Limitless
store, and Jamison Clark of PC Workshop made a presentation about the
possibility of expanding the Limitless Store. The workshop owns some
ground on the west side of the current building. They are looking into
constructing a new facility on that property.
Burtch said several expansion and construction scenarios were discussed, but the project is in very early stages.
Sierra
and Clark asked about the village’s future plans for the adjacent
Stokely Ponds property. He explained they want a positive environment
for the retail and food they want to put in the building expansion.
Burtch
said, “They would like to be able to connect with the ball fields and
the soccer fields and also maybe Bittersweet [senior residences],” which
would be beneficial to the west side of town. “They’re doing an amazing
business and they want to grow it,” he added.
Finance director
Cheryl Halter reminds everyone the village office will be closed at
certain times between Aug. 4-10 for staff training on new utilities
billing software. The schedule is:

• Friday, Aug. 5 – Closed all day to the public

• Wednesday, Aug. 10 – Closed all day to the public
Normal office hours should resume Aug. 11.
Vance
announced Officer Devin Sanchez is resigning his full-time police
department position effective Aug. 7. He wants to remain a reserve
officer.
Vance said the village is accepting applications for a full-time officer to replace Sanchez.
In addition, the village will begin mosquito spraying this week, weather permitting.
The
sewage lift station components and pumps for the Gasser Road
infrastructure project has been installed. The contractor is still
waiting for some electrical components.
Council members had several questions.
Councilman
Randy Daeger asked for an update on security for the village brush pile
behind Live Oak Cemetery. Vance said he is looking into reusing two
stationary cameras and a driveway gate to help save some costs. Vance is
waiting for quotes on a fence and to have the brush pile ground into
mulch.
Daeger also noted a “huge issue” with grass growing in
gutters, especially in the “New Addition” area west of Walnut Street and
north of Baldwin Avenue. Vance responded the village is continuing a
preventative maintenance program, started four years ago, of sealing
pavement cracks. However, where pavement already is deteriorated, crack
sealing is “wasting your money.”
A complaint was raised about
residents leaving items for bulk trash pick-up at the curb for a week or
more before their scheduled pick-up date. The map and schedule are on
the village website at www.villageofpaulding.com under Bulk Pick Up
Schedule.
Mayor Greg White commended the street workers for
responding to the power outage one day last week. They immediately
placed signs at intersections where traffic lights are located and “kept
the village safe, traffic-wise.”
Councilman Dan Workman commended
Officer Nathaniel Trausch for an excellent job at the law enforcement
and first responder training held July 31 at Paulding School.
The
police department during July responded to 196 service requests and four
traffic accidents; issued four traffic citations; wrote zero parking
tickets; completed 109 security checks; sent three junk notice letters;
and issued one junk ordinance citation.
No EMS report was available.
Council adjourned into executive session for a personnel matter. No action was taken.
The
next regular council meeting is 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15. The public
may watch live via Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/4451352151. The
meeting ID number is 445 135 2151.
