PAYNE – On April 19-20, Paulding County witnessed the 41st anniversary of the 24-hour P.A.S.S. Basketball Marathon in the Payne Elementary gym.

The Marathon was born after former Payne resident Jim Hooker’s time at Bowling Green State University when he played in a similar 24-hour basketball charity fundraiser. Now 41 years later, the dream is still alive to help those in need in Paulding County.

This year, the Marathon had 106 teams competing in seven divisions of basketball action. This year the Marathon raised $6,500.

The traveling plaque was awarded to R.E.O. Legacy, which is sponsored by the Overmyer family from Payne. They have played in all 41 years of the Marathon.

The Marathon Committee and the P.A.S.S. society are all unpaid volunteers, so all the money raised will go to those in need from Paulding County.
