PAYNE – This year Payne residents anticipated the return of the P.A.S.S. Basektball Marathon. The popular event is typically used to attract alumni back to their roots. Chad Benschnieder, the P.A.S.S. Basketball Marathon Chairman, with a heavy heart, conveyed the status of the event in this letter addressed to the public.

Fellow Marathon supporters,

It is that time of year that we are normally pushing are regulars to get working on their annual P.A.S.S. Basketball Marathon entries. Unfortunately, after collaborating with the members of the PASS society, Wayne Trace School, & the Health Department, the decision was made to cancel or at least post pone this years event until COVID concerns were under control. We made this decision about a month ago, although the numbers recently appear to be a little more favorable. The issue with enforcing mask wearing & social distancing, as well as asking volunteers to potential put themselves at risk was more than we wanted to risk.

As far as an alternative date, we thought about potentially late summer, but I am unsure if that will actually happen. We do plan on discussing options in late Spring on if we think it can potentially be rescheduled. Your feedback on a potential reschedule of the Marathon is always welcome.

The Flat Rock Masonic Lodge is selling for gun raffle tickets. The Lodge has offered to split the profits from their fundraiser with the PASS Society. The P.A.S.S. Society greatly appreciates the Lodge’s generous offer to include us in their fund raiser. If you or a family member have any interest you may contact me at 419-769-4708 to make arrangements to purchase. You may also possibly know a member of the Flat Rock Lodge, that would also be happy to sell you the gun raffle tickets.

WE ALL HOPE THAT THE BASKETBALL MARATHON IS ABLE TO CONTINUE, AFTER HAVING TO CANCEL THE MARATHON IN BACK TO BACK YEARS.

Thank You,

Chad Benschneider

Hopefully, 2022 will allow for the basketball marathon to be played on its traditional weekend - Easter weekend. The Progress will continue to provide updates as they are provided.
