Dear Editor,

John Paulding Historical Society’s annual chicken barbecue will be Saturday, Aug 6. There is still time to reserve your tickets by leaving a message at 419-399-3667. A few tickets will be sold at the door while quantities last. We will have carryout and in-house dining for your convenience. Serving time begins at 4 p.m. and continues until 7 p.m.

During the barbecue, see a display of antique tractors and vintage pedal tractors presented by Larry Reithman. He also will be bringing the family’s restored 1963 International pickup truck. The museum’s special county fair exhibit will be open for guests to view.

Don’t forget the annual antique truck show to be held on Sunday, Sept. 18, during the Flat Rock Creek Fall Festival. The Kauser family has been doing a great job for several years and I know this year will be no different.

After these events, we will begin getting ready for our biggest event of the year. “Let Heaven and Nature Sing” is the theme for this year’s Festival of Trees at the museum Nov. 3-12. Yes, I know it’s early but we hope to get you on board so we can have another successful year. The museum relies on this fundraiser to keep “History Alive” for everyone who comes to visit the museum.

Trees will come out of storage on Sept. 20 and decorating will begin within the week. There will be various times for you to decorate. Please call the museum so we will know if we can count on you. We have lots of trees, so why not give it a try?

Something different will be the Celebration of Wreaths. We you you will support us with beautiful wreaths as in the past, but this year we plan to have an auction on the last Saturday. Don’t worry – we will be all done in time for the OSU football game. The wreaths will be on display throughout the festival.

I hope I have you thinking about supporting the Festival of Trees. Last year, over 1,500 people came to view the decorations and share in the activities. Mark your calendars and get ready for the barbecue, truck show and Festival of Trees.

Paulding County residents, you are the greatest, and the support from the surrounding counties is a blessing to those of us who volunteer on a weekly basis and throughout the year to keep “History Alive” for the school children, the genealogists, the travelers and those who bring in the many historical items.

The number for the museum is 419-399-8218, or stop in from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesdays. We hope to hear from you.
