VAN WERT – The Western Buckeye Educational Service Center met on May 26 at the Van Wert office for a regular session.

On a motion made by the board members the following items were approved: the amended permanent appropriations by fund; the minutes from the April 17 regular meeting; the Alaina Backus’ salary placement for fiscal year 2021 at $36,889; a payment to Emilee Grothouse in the amount of $2,732 and the following dock days: Jaclyn Stuckey, Kayla Metzger, Alicia Beregszazi, Brittany Rieman, Chelsey Hartz and Chelsey Hartz (bussing). Also, the school calendars for WBESC Office, Thomas Edison Preschool and Paulding County Opportunity School as presented were approved.

On a motion made by the board members the following resignations were accepted: Michele Bird, teacher; Karlin Dunlap, teacher; Emilee Grothouse, teacher; Brittany Winhover, aide and Marilyn Agler, paraprofessional. All resignations are effective at the end of the current contract.

The following donations were accepted for Thomas Edison Preschool - Beta Delta Chapter Psi Iota, $150 and Tiffany Hart Paparazzi consultant, $600.

The following contracts were suspended: Michelle Davis, Help Me Grow Service Coordinator, due to the WBESC no longer being the Administrative Agent of the Family and Children First Council as of July 1; Cathy Ruiz, Family and Children First Coordinator, due to WBESC no longer being the Administrative Agent of the Family and Children First Council as of July 1; Natasha Hunnicutt, Health Coordinator, due to cancellation of an inter-district service contract; Kayla Metzger, social worker, due to reductions in force caused by the cancellation of an inter-district service contract; Dan Kline, due to reduction in force caused by the cancellation of an inter-district service contract; Tony Langhals, SLC Director, due to reduction in force caused by the cancellation of an inter-district service contract; Larry Altenburger, SLC Assistant Director, due to reduction in force caused by the cancellation of an inter-district service contract.

The following contracts were also suspended: Tracy Katner, paraprofessional, cause by the cancellation of an inter-district service contract; Korene Shleton, paraprofessional, due to reduction in force caused by the cancellation of an inter-district service contract; Tracy Katner, ESC Secretary, due to reduction in force caused by financial reasons; Ronda Niemeyer, teacher, due to reduction in force caused by the cancellation of an inter-district service contract and Rachel Powell, teacher, due to reduction in force caused by the cancellation of an inter-district service contract.

On a motion made by the board the following background, paperwork, valid licensure and background checks were approved: Jill Welch, Thomas Edison Preschool Director; Katherine Luptak, case manager; Corbin Vance, paraprofessional; Jan Kohart, SOAR Program Co-coordinator; Ashely Shepherd, SOAR Program Co-Coordinator; SOAR June Summer Camp teachers: Beth Carnahan, Emily Siefker, Emily Taylor, Breanna Richards, Mark Stuck, Kinsey Miller, Sarah Klima, Amy Jo Brimmer, Brenda Doster, Sydney Collins, Holly Tropp, Julie March, Kelly Buss, Anna Wilhelm, Charli Rohlf and Phil Romero.

The final business on the agenda to be approved was a one percent pay increase for the ESC Superintendent and Treasurer for the 2021-2022 school year.

The next regular session board meeting will is scheduled for June 30 at the Paulding office.
