HAVILAND – The Wayne Trace school board held its June meeting on June 24 in the lecture room.

Elyssa Smart was introduced to the board as the new teacher at Payne Elementary. She joins the district with eight years of teaching experience.

The Athletic Boosters reported that through various fundraisers this past year they were able to donate $45,000 back to Wayne Trace sports this year.

Ken Ogle and Kaleb O’Donnell were recognized as teacher of the year recipients for the district. Ogle is the art teacher at both Payne Elementary and Grover Hill Elementary while O’Donnell teaches music at Payne Elementary. Joni Wenninger and Joni Klopfenstein were also recognized as recipients for the JH/HS but were unable to attend the meeting.

It was noted that work has been started on the press box and bleacher renovation at the football field. The project is expected to be completed before football season starts in the fall.

The district buses drove a total of 166,521 miles this year and used 23,104.1 gallons of fuel this year. This is a 31,561 mile decrease from last year. The decrease comes from not running an activity bus this year and also fewer activities going out.

The board accepted the resignations of Annette Sinn from junior high track and Treg Lymanstall from seventh grade boys basketball.

The following staffing changes were also made at Payne Elementary: Kelly Stouffer, sixth grade; Marta Wilder, fifth grade; Teresa Pfieffer, third grade and Cheryl Jones, first grade.

One year supplemental contracts for 2019-2020 were approved for: Jim Linder, head boys basketball; Ken Speice, eighth grade basketball; Mike Priest, assistant varsity HS girls’ basketball; Kelly Davis, eighth grade girls’ basketball; Chelsea Spiece, HS cheerleading; George Clemens, head wrestling; Tyler Ash, JH wrestling; and Ryne Jerome, girls faculty manager.

Chad Goeltzenleuchter and Ruger Goeltzenleuchter were approved as volunteer coaches for wrestling.

It was decided that Rex Flory and Sarah Voirol would be inducted into the Wayne Trace Staff Hall of Fame in a formal ceremony this September.

The board approved a donation of $750 to the Special Olympics program to support the Wayne Trace students that are headed to the summer games.

Kaleb O’Donnell was moved into the open JH/HS music position.

The board also approved the resignation of Kori Stoller from the board due to moving outside of the district.

The meeting went into executive session then was adjourned.

The next board meeting will be held on July 15 at 6:30 p.m.
