HAVILAND – A 14-0 first quarter proved to be the difference Friday night at the ‘Palace’ as the Wayne Trace Lady Raiders recorded a 60-45 victory over Edgerton in Green Meadows Conference girls’ basketball play.

Trailing 7-1 early in the contest, the red, white and blue scored 14 consecutive markers to take control of the contest.

A Gracie Shepherd basket ignited the run, which was sparked by a Raider defense that forced six Bulldog turnovers in the opening period.

Two Shepherd free throws preceded another Careen Winans trey that gave the Raiders a 15-7 advantage late in the quarter. Alivia Farnham added another Edgerton bucket to pull the Bulldogs within 15-9 at the end of eight minutes of action.

With Wayne Trace on top 17-11, a Harper Myers basket started another Raider run that widened the gap to 25-11.

Careen Winans picked up a three-point shot before Myers hit one of two foul shots for a 23-11 advantage.

Myers chipped in a bucket as well for Wayne Trace while Caroline Winans made one of two free throws for a 26-12 lead.

Edgerton trimmed the deficit to ten at the half, getting a Farnham three-pointer to pull within 33-23 at the intermission.

The Bulldogs pulled within seven points twice in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 33-26 and 38-31 both on Casey Everetts treys.

However, two Lexi Moore buckets and a Myers three-pointer widened the Raider lead to 45-31 at the end of three periods.

Wayne Trace then put the game away in the fourth quarter, expanding the margin to as much as 52-34 on a Shepherd bucket and 54-36 as Lexi Moore scored.

Edgerton pulled within 56-42 in the final stanza on an Ava Swank trey before Wayne Trace sealed the outcome at the free throw line.
