ANTWERP – In its first test of the 2012-13 boys basketball season, the Antwerp Archers hosted the Blackbirds from Pettisville. The low-scoring battle wasn’t settled until the final minute when the Birds used perfect free throw shooting to preserve the win, 54-49. In fact, the visitors were 10-of-10 in the fourth quarter from the charity stripe.

Antwerp opened up a 9-4 lead in the first quarter and built their advantage to as many as 10 at 14-4 with six minutes remaining in the second period when Pettisville called timeout. The lead would grow no larger as the Birds chipped away until they were down just three at the half, 20-17.
