Girls Basketball

The Lady Archers opened their basketball season at home against Delphos Jefferson on Saturday night. The Wildcats scored 24 points in the second quarter to open up a double digit lead at the half 33-22. Antwerp battled back in the second half to pull within two but would get no closer. Delphos outlasted the Archers 51-47. Kaiya Jemison led the Lady Archer scoring with 16.

 

Wayne Trace’s girls basketball team opened the season this weekend by participating in the McDonald’s Tip Off Classic at Van Wert High School.

In the season opener, the Lady Raiders fell by a 58-34 margin to Crestview. Sylvia Young posted nine points to pace Wayne Trace and Krystal Wannemacher chipped in six markers. Karena Egnor (five), Lauren Speice (four), Taylor Grant (three), Erin Mohr (three), Tanya Sinn (two) and Shayna Temple (two) picked up the remaining points.

Saturday evening, the red, white and blue battled host Van Wert for four quarters before eventually coming up short to the Lady Cougars 56-48. Krystal Wannemacher scored 11 points to pace Wayne Trace while Lauren Speice added 10 markers. Erin Mohr (eight), Karena Egnor (six), Shayna Temple (five), Sylvia Young (four), Brenda Feasby (two) and Tanya Sinn (two) were the other Raider scorers. Wayne Trace led 16-15 after one quarter before the Cougars rallied to take a 24-23 halftime advantage. The Raiders posted a 40-35 advantage entering the final stanza.

Wayne Trace (0-2) will host Parkway in non-league action Tuesday evening at 6 p.m.
