SALLY HEISS 1942-2017
PAYNE – Sally Lou Heiss, 74, of Payne, passed away Monday, March 6 at Vancrest of Payne.
Sally was born in Monroe, Mich. on Sept. 6, 1942, a daughter of the late Irene Marie (Braun) and Delmont Lansing Chapman Jr. On June 27, 1964, she married William Donald Heiss, who passed away Jan. 14, 2006.
She was a member of Saint John Lutheran Church, Briceton and the United Methodist Church, Manistee, Mich. Sally received her B.S. in nursing from her beloved Michigan State University. She was the director for the Manistee and Mason county health departments for 27 years. This included making visits to homes and migrant camps. She also owned Yesterday’s Garden Flower Shop in Manistee. Although her work was important to Sally, she was just as content to bake, spend time with her family, help anyone in need and cheer for the Michigan State Spartans.
She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Jodie (Jay) Schmidt of Payne and Jill (Lee) Miller, Rockford, Mich.; brother, Robert (Shirley) Chapman of South Rockwood, Mich.; sister-in-law, Diane (Terry) Brey of Flatrock, Mich.; and grandchildren, Emma and Joe Schmidt and Kate and Grace Miller.
She also was preceded in death by her brother, Delmont Chapman; and a grandson, Wesley Miller.
Her funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday, March 10 at St. John Lutheran Church, Briceton. She will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery, Paulding County.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, March 9 at Dooley Funeral Home, 5761 SR 500, Payne, and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
